For 36 years, we've helped construction companies boost productivity, performance, and growth, with smarter software solutions.
In the mid-1980s, Paul Unter began his career as an assistant controller for a general construction company in Queens, NY, while pursuing his degree in accounting. At the time, desktop computing was just beginning to enter the business world. Paul recognized its potential and led the company's transition from manual accounting to The Construction Manager, a DOS-based job cost accounting system from Software Shop Systems.
His early success caught the attention of Apex Computer Systems, the regional reseller for Software Shop, who invited Paul to join them in supporting construction firms with software implementation, training, and Novell network installations.
Around the same time, Theresa Corso—then an assistant controller at a Brooklyn-based construction company—also became a user of The Construction Manager. Impressed by its capabilities, she began referring other construction firms to the software. Her enthusiasm and influence didn't go unnoticed—Apex soon approached Theresa to join their sales team, recognizing her ability to connect with contractors and understand their business needs.
In 1987, Software Shop Systems encouraged Paul and Theresa to take the leap—establishing their own firm dedicated to bringing construction technology to businesses across New York.
Construction Information Systems, Inc. was founded in 1988.
Bringing their combined expertise to the Capital Region, Paul and Theresa quickly became known for helping contractors of all sizes modernize and streamline their operations. In 1994, CIS expanded its services to include Timberline Construction Software, now known as Sage Construction Software, further solidifying its position as a trusted partner in the construction industry.
With over 36 years of experience, CIS has guided more than 650 construction companies through successful software selection, implementation, and support. Our clients include many of the largest and most respected contractors across New York City and Upstate New York.
What sets CIS apart is Paul's hands-on approach. He personally oversees the implementation and conversion of every system to ensure each client is up and running successfully. Combining his knowledge of construction accounting, expertise in the business processes and reporting needs of construction firms and a long track record of implementations—from publicly traded firms on the New York Stock Exchange to solo entrepreneurs just starting out—has led companies across the region and beyond to seek out his services.
Together, Paul and Theresa have built a team of dedicated software and IT professionals who understand the construction industry—and tailor solutions that deliver results.
To empower construction companies with smart, efficient, and proven software solutions that drive performance, increase productivity, and support long-term growth.
